|Department of Industrial and Business Management|
Industrial and Business Management is an applied science combining both theory and practice. Besides actively promoting the interchange with the industry, the department is collaborating with enterprises in the Formosa Plastics Group to provide undergraduates with work-study opportunities and half-year internships. Students also have the option of work-study and internships with businesses apart from the Formosa Plastics Group. Both the undergraduate department and graduate institute rely heavily on case study instruction, place particular attention on interdisciplinary research, and emphasize the integration of theory and practice.
In the undergraduate department, apart from basic courses on quantitative methods, information, and languages, etc., students also take required courses on economics, statistics, accounting, and calculus. We encourage students to select a major from the department’s four main programs: technology and operations management, financial management, operational management, and biotechnology management. We also encourage students to take a minor or study for a double degree.
In the graduate institute, each of the foregoing four programs independently recruits and admits students; this system allows each program to develop its own distinctive features. The research specialties of the current faculty provide a very representative cross section of the field of management. Our primary research directions include high-tech industry management, non-profit enterprise management, derivative financial products and financial innovation, e-commerce, industry analysis, etc.
We wish our undergraduate students to acquire the following qualities throughout the educational process.
